Breast Cosmetics, Female
The most common cosmetic procedures performed for the female breast are augmentation mammaplasty and mastopexy. Breast augmentation surgery involves using breast implants to increase the size of your breasts or restore breast volume that has been lost due to weight reduction, aging or pregnancy
Breast augmentation can:
- Increase fullness and projection of your breasts
- Improve the balance of your figure
- Enhance your self image and self confidence
Breast implants may also be used for breast reconstruction after mastectomy or injury. Mastopexy is the procedure commonly referred to as a breast lift. It is sometimes necessary to correct severe drooping or sagging of the breast. Breast augmentation does not correct severely drooping breasts.
If you want your breasts to look fuller and to be lifted due to sagging, a breast lift may be required in conjunction with breast augmentation. Breast lifting can often be done at the same time as your augmentation or may require a separate operation. Your plastic surgeon will assist you in making this decision.
What is breast lift surgery?
A breast lift, also known as mastopexy, raises the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to reshape and support the new breast contour. Reducing the size of the areola is also usually done as a part of this procedure. A breast lift can rejuvenate your figure with a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted. Changes in the breast shape over time and loss of skin elasticity can result from:
- Pregnancy
- Weight fluctuations
- Aging
- Gravity
- Heredity
