Female Breast Reconstruction
What is breast reconstruction?
Breast reconstruction after mastectomy is achieved through multiple different types of plastic surgery techniques. Their objective is to restore near normal shape and size to the reconstructed breast.
Some patients are best treated with flaps(tissue transfer to the area), and others with tissue expanders/implants. The procedure(s) which is appropriate for you will be explained in better detail at the time of your consultation.
It is important to note that the reconstructed breast will not have the same sensation as the original and that procedures on the opposite side(reduction, augmentation, lift)may be necessary in order to achieve symmetry.
What is breast reduction surgery?
Also known as reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat and glandular tissue in order to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body. It also is very effective at alleviating the neck, back and shoulder discomfort which can accompany the condition of overly large breasts.
