Male Specific Procedures
While most plastic surgery procedures are performed both for women and men, there are certain procedures which are usually only done for men, namely, gynecomastia reduction and hair replacement therapy.
What is gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is enlargement of the male breast which is usually caused by heredity or the use of certain drugs. It can occur at any age and can cause embarrassment, and may result in behavior designed to hide the disorder.
Gynecomastia is characterized by:
- Excess localized fat and glandular tissue
- Sometimes excess breast skin
Correction involves surgical resection and/or liposuction.
What is hair replacement surgery?
Hair transplantation involves removing small pieces of hairbearing scalp grafts from a donor site and relocating them to a bald or thinning area. Hair loss is primarily caused by aging and heredity. It can also be caused by trauma and burns, in which case correction may be covered by insurance.
